Twenty questions to ask any salon software. Here are our answers.

Feature tables written by vendors always come out the same way. This page gives you the questions that matter for a salon, answers them honestly for Salon100X, including what we do not do, and leaves you to ask the others.

Booking

How many steps to book online, with no account?

Six: location, service, package (optional), staff, date and time, confirm. No login needed.

One service per online booking; staff can build multi-service appointments.

Can a client pick "any available" stylist?

Yes. Every eligible stylist's free times are merged and the first one free is assigned.

Is there an assistant that books for clients?

Yes. Text, dictation or live voice in the browser, checking real availability and booking with a reference.

In the browser, in English. It does not answer the phone.

What happens when someone cancels?

Waitlisted clients get a text offer the moment a slot is cancelled, and can book it in one tap.

Needs the salon's own Twilio account for SMS.

Payments and repeat revenue

How are payments taken?

Card and online payments through the salon's own Stripe account, plus payment links by email.

No card terminal or tap to pay.

Gift cards?

Online from £1 to £10,000 with a balance link, and issued in salon. Codes apply at booking.

Memberships and loyalty?

Memberships billed as Stripe subscriptions; loyalty points earned per pound and redeemed at booking; referral rewards when the friend's first appointment completes.

Clients and forms

What does the client record hold?

Upcoming, past and cancelled appointments, lifetime revenue, visits and average spend, top services, points, membership, gift cards, packages, orders and journey timeline.

Digital forms and consent?

Form builder with text, choice, photo, signature and consent fields; signed pre-visit links or tablet mode in salon; PDF download.

Can I import my client list?

Not by self-service today. Ask about a managed migration at the demo.

Stated plainly so there are no surprises.

Team

Commission and payroll?

Commission statements per stylist; payroll files in generic CSV, Xero, QuickBooks and UK IRIS formats, reconciled to the penny.

Files to hand to your accountant, not a live API connection.

Attendance?

Manager-recorded attendance and leave, with a monthly leave ledger.

Not GPS clock-in.

Per-location managers?

Yes. Each location has its own manager login, settings, hours and Stripe account; the owner can log in as any location.

Numbers and marketing

How many reports, and can they be emailed?

Thirty, with date, location and staff filters, CSV and PDF export, and daily, weekly or monthly scheduled emails.

Can I ask questions in plain English?

Yes. The Front Desk Copilot answers today's numbers, any period, why a metric moved, and runs any of the 30 reports.

Reviews?

A text four hours after a completed visit; 4 and 5 stars go to Google, Trustpilot or Facebook, lower scores stay with the manager.

Campaigns and automations?

Segments, email and SMS campaigns, and automated journeys triggered by completed visits, no-shows, birthdays, lapsed clients, membership anniversaries and expiring packages.

SMS needs the salon's own Twilio account.

Contract

What does it cost?

One plan, £299, every live module included. First three months free, no card at signup, no set-up fee.

Is it included with marketing?

Yes. Every Salon100X Growth package includes the software as an add-on.

What is not in the product?

Appointment reminders, WhatsApp, deposits and no-show fees, card terminals, Apple Pay and Google Pay, native apps. We say so rather than call them coming soon.

We only describe our own product. The tools salons most often switch from (Fresha, Phorest, Treatwell, Booksy, Timely) change their features and pricing regularly, so put these same questions to them and compare the answers side by side rather than trusting a table written by one vendor.

Ask us the hard ones

Bring your current system's invoice to the demo.

We will show you the same workflows side by side, on your services and staff list, and tell you plainly where we are behind.
